The Weekend Report

05/11/2008

May 10th, Oreilly's Airport Raceway-Mother Nature tried to slow up things at the Oreilly’s Airport Raceway this last week, with brutally cold temperatures and a crazy north wind, but there simply is no stopping Kory Lira out of Ulysses, KS. Lira, known as the “original gangster,” once again took the Winged 600 Main Event from Nate Flemming of Great Bend. Chris Hindman, of Garden City ran thru the pack for a great third place finish in the Main. Michael Davidson of Amarillo, TX, took a wild flippin’ ride in the Main Event of the 600, but walked away.

Bob Baker of Garden City put a quick stop to the early season dominance of Rob Clower and his “green rocket,” by stealing the Main Event win, Clower wasn’t to be out done in collecting the hardware as he came away with the trophy dash.

Robbie Fowler, of Liberal, KS, took home a couple trophies in the 600 Restrictor class with wins in the Main and Dash. Bill Statton of Ensign , KS, took a wild ride after his heat race, but after being checked out at the hospital we learn he is a little sore, but doing well.

It was all Boone in the Junior Sprints with Jadin Boone of Great Bend, KS, taking the Main Event and her brother Devin winning the trophy dash.

The Kansas Outlaw Mowers were in the house also and as of press time we didn’t have the outcomes due to scoring issues with the mowers.

“DWM Notes.”

~Bill Statton, after the race simply come around to the third turn exit no need to make a new one!

~Michael Davidson, just because someone in front of you broke, don’t mean you have to throw parts all over the playground(and out of the playground too!), wild ride man! Happy your ok!

~Once again Dave, Tammy and the awesome staff at Airport come thru a nasty weather weekend with Shinning Colors, God Bless you all and Good Night.

Oreilly's Opening Night

05/04/2008

May 3rd Oreilly’s Airport Raceway Opening Night - A great day lead to a wonderful opening night of racing here at the raceway. It was a last lap pass to win in the 600 Winged Open Class by the “Original Gangster” Kory Lira out of Ulysses, KS, passing Devin Frazier in the Kiwi “Orange Crush.” Frazier was one of the fastest 600s of the night but the win slid away in the top of 2 on the tacky unforgiving high banks. Manisha Weaver is the newly crowned queen of the Restrictor class running a smooth opening night , taking two trophies and leaving the gate intact. The green rocket took the dwarf car derby main event, congrats Rob Clower of Garden City, KS. Sniper Chassis driver Caden Hagens loaded his trophy case in the Jr Sprints star studded field of rookies.

The Open Class 600s put on an intense show with constant battling from Lira, Devin Frazier, Travis Weaver, John Todd, Jerry Moellering and Cody Ellis . Todd was the trophy dash winner of the night, in a short lapped battle that had the night’s best racing in it. Scott Reimer got on his lid in the yellow 41 in the middle of the 1st and 2nd turns early in the 600 feature but continued on for a respectable 9th place finish. Chris Hindman battled his Scorpion Chassis all night with small issues but finished a strong 8th place, and now leads the rookie of the year standings.

Rob Clower paced the field to an unchallenged win in the Palace Computer #12B in the dwarf car feature. It was a lengthy battle for the next three positions as trophy dash winner John Bemis of Garden played spin the bottle all night long with Bob Baker and Jason Baker of Garden City. Once this little monster of a car gets out for under you, you have a ride on your hands.

In a small but close field of racing, Manisha “the Restrictor Queen” Weaver stole the show in the restrictor class. Robbie Flower of Liberal, KS and Bill Statton of Ensign, KS both put up fine battles with Weaver early on in the races before she got up on the wheel of the Weaver Alignment Sawyer and rode away with the win.

The Jr Class continues to grow and a pace that is unbelievable, but it was all Caden Hagens. Hagens real challenge of the night was from the speedy Screamin’ Eagle 79c Colbert out of Dodge City. Jayden Crook’s beautiful number 52 junior showed he’s a chip of the ole’ Crook block and came home in 3rd place. Young racers Ricke and Moore of Dodge City run great smooth races all night to earn top fives in the feature.

See the results and points pages for all the individual results and standings.

DWM notes of the night:

-Devin Frazier’s “Orange Crush” will be a constant winner before the year is out , what a great night Dman!

-”OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG” nuf said!

-Attention Restrictor Class boys, you just got beat by a GIRL! Number one playground excuse, “I let her win!”

-Mr. Bemis, it‘s Mrs. Baker for you on line one! Great trophy dash win.

-Manisha “Restrictor Queen” Weaver, it took Danica longer and she destroyed cars too!

-John Campbell, looks like parts of lil’ hottie wanna be lil’ red again, and you thought I’d leave you out !

-Chase Martin, I heard a story that your daddy passed the pace car too!

-Chris “the Hinny Maneuver” Hindman, we have ordered you reminder stickers “Got TearOffs?”

-Tammy Frazier you are the real Airport Queen, for all you do and all you have to put up with . God Bless and Good Night.
